ABOUT PAVONES In this small town, development is vaguely present. The most dramatic change was the installation of electricity 15 years ago. The roads, albeit bumpy, are maintained better than before. (And slowly but surely the 'Ticos' are learning to NOT throw their garbage in the streets!) Last year, amazingly, the telephones arrived! There are no banks or post offices: we go to Golfito for these services. It is best to bring dollars (US) or "colones" (Costa Rican) for all spending in Pavones as travelers cheques are rarely cashed and credit cards are NOT accepted anywhere, so far. Pavones' town center is a soccer field ("plaza de futbol") fringed by little businesses. We have a few small supermarkets ("pulperias"), a basic hardware store, many 'cabinas' and a growing variety of restaurants.

Note: Beaches in Pavones are undeveloped and unpopulated. Naturally landscaped by high and low tides the coastline is a mixture of sand and rock. There are no dangerous riptides but swimmers should be aware of tidal currents. |
